No. I’m old school. In other words I do not let others influence any MS I’m working on, which is precisely what developmental editor means. Only people who do not know where their MS is going tend to cry out for help. I do not!
I agree that not all authors have the same need (or desire) to work with editors. Given the costs, we have to decide which services we need the most — editing, formatting, cover design, advertising, etc.
