‘He’s very quiet…’ I mouthed to my husband, having checked that our latest house-guest was comfortable in the back of the car. On the journey home, I mused on his Oriental handsomeness…

When we arrived, he looked pensive – nervous even. Hmm. Fortunately, in a short space of time, he seemed to relax, although he refused proffered refreshments. However, he soon found his voice and seemed to find our simple entertainments pleasing.

Later, my husband commented on what a warm evening it was, and getting warmer by the minute. Phew! It was at that point we realised our house guest – unused to our remote control gadget – had inadvertently turned on the central heating. At least he looked bemused!

When we retired for the night, we left the door ajar – with mixed feelings about our new guest. It was around one or two…
