Steampunk Tales Free – #1 by G.D.Falksen
As an introduction to the peculiar world of Steampunk fiction, I suppose this is as good as any other offering.
There is one very annoying trait in Steampunk that really gets to me and that is the peculiar affectation employed by Steampunk authors of referring to their protagonists by maddeningly shortening the names of their protagonists, not to mention the year they are talking about, by, in the case of the protagonists, only using the capital letter of the person’s surname, and regarding the year, by only using the first two numbers of the year.
There is one other matter which grates with me personally, and that is the overly worded narrative employed in the first person.
Would this book encourage me to read any more Steampunk stories? Decidedly no. Definitely not my cup of tea…
I'm not even sure what steampunk IS, honestly. Though I've learned more now with your enlightening review. Genres give me headaches. I think I understand cut and dry ones like classic romance, horror, mystery, sci-fi, fantasy, and children's. But, then there's steampunk, chick lit, speculative, young adult, even one called "new adult", which someone suggested I might fall into. Shall I pull my hair out now or later? Nice review, by the way 😉

Steampunk equals Victorian scifi Mysti. Lots of dirigibles and steam driven machines. Hope that helps. 🙂

In a nutshell, yes, Steampunk is Victorian SciFi – that is, as if written by a Victorian writer. It is not, however, abbreviated dates or names – that is a tool used by some writers.

Yes, it seems that Steampunk is everywhere, and either you like it or you don't. Unfortunately, I'm being 'forced' to explore that myself in my own jewelry crafting, because thats' what the public wants after all.I'm a new follower over from The Blog Farm. Hope you can stop by sometime.Cindy
